To scale its core telehealth offering, Happier Living needed to build a comprehensive mental healthcare platform that could handle the significant technical challenges associated with healthcare compliance, insurance processing, and provider management – across all 50 states.

The system manages provider licensing by state and navigates the legal requirements around appointment location when patients and providers are in different states, all while staying synced with the AthenaHealth EHR system.

For patients, the portal enables provider searching with advanced filtering (by state, appointment times, gender, provider attributes), appointment management, and secure access to their care sessions. The clinician portal provides daily calendar access and appointment booking capabilities during patient sessions, operating with replicated data to ensure performance and reliability. The administrative portal completes the ecosystem with comprehensive oversight capabilities.
5. Performant, Comprehensive Cybersecurity
We implemented healthcare-grade security throughout the platform, with all data encrypted in transit and selective encryption at rest for sensitive information. The system uses AWS-managed encryption keys and JWT-based authentication through Cognito, with a least-necessary permissions model for all service interactions. The security implementation has been validated through extensive penetration tests.
